Our goal is to create an image database where phobia-related content is grouped along these emotions.
Two emotional reactions, fear, and disgust, have a significant role in blood-injection phobia. The former is thought to protect the integrity of the body, while the latter may play a role in preventing infections. The stimuli relevant to BII phobia can be very diverse. Think of sterile medical equipment (e.g. a hypodermic needle or scalpel), a waiting room full of patients, or a bloody, infected open wound. Given the specificity of these stimuli, it can be assumed that not all stimuli evoke emotions. A sterile sharp instrument is potentially more likely to evoke fear, an infected wound more likely to evoke disgust, while a piece of bloody equipment may evoke both.
