József Madácsy obtained MA degrees in Philosophy and Social Work at the University of Pécs. He earned his PhD degree in Ethnography-Cultural Anthropology in 2013. He wrote his doctoral thesis on Alcoholics Anonymous in Hungary.
Now his main fields of interest are the 12-step fellowships, addiction social work, ethical dilemmas and spirituality in social work.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of Szociális Szemle (Hungarian Social Review). He is a peer reviewer of Addiktológia (Addictologia Hungarica).
Participation in research projects:
2016: Evaluation Research in the BÁZIS (BASE) Addiction Service.
2015: Evaluation Research in Residential Drug Rehabilitation programs. A project funded by the Ministry of Human Capacities. Leaders: Prof. Gábor Kelemen & Dr Márta B. Erdős.
2008: Ethical Codes and Ethical Controls in the Social Sciences: Impact on research production and dissemination. European network coordinated by Dr Betsy Thom (Middlesex University).
2007: Psychosocial transformations and the rhetoric of change in the 12-step Fellowships. A project funded by the National Scientific Research Fund. Leader: Dr Gábor Kelemen. (Interviewing sober addicts in 12-step Fellowships, CAQDAS).
Awards & scholarships:
