Classical Philology programme

We recommend our programmes to students who are open-minded, curious, and eager to explore the languages and cultures of the ancient world. Students can learn Latin or Ancient Greek—even starting from scratch—and discover how people in antiquity lived and thought. The programmes also welcome those interested in religion, both in antiquity and in later periods, as well as literature, art, theatre, music, and the history of ancient Greece and Rome. They offer opportunities to develop skills in analysing and interpreting texts and images.

Our programmes are for those who enjoy asking questions, doing research, and reflecting on what they discover—and for those who appreciate studying in a friendly, close-knit academic community.

We warmly welcome everyone!

Classical Studies programme

The programme introduces students to the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome and helps them develop their critical thinking, broaden their knowledge, and communicate effectively. It provides a sound foundation for the study of European literatures and Western cultural history, covering literary genres, mythology, Greek and Roman religion, art, philosophy, and the history of science. By learning the basics of Greek and Latin, students gain an understanding of fundamental concepts in general linguistics and become familiar with vocabulary derived from these languages that is widely used in the humanities and social sciences. Graduates with a BA degree can pursue careers in museums and galleries, libraries and archives, domestic and international tourism, and cultural project management.
