History of the department, current profile of education and research
At the University of Pécs, since September 1991, regular specialized ethnographic training has been taking place. In 2001, the department adopted the name Ethnography - Cultural Anthropology.
The basic aim of the education at the department is to train specialists who are proficient in the theoretical and practical issues of social and cultural research and are methodologically qualified to analyze and interpret the culture and phenomena of everyday life in past and present Hungarian and European as well as non-European societies. Accordingly, the training has three focal points: European ethnology, folkloristics - religion/mentality, cultural anthropology.
