About the Liberal Arts Programme
A multidisciplinary program providing a wide choice of humanities-related majors.
For nearly 800 years, liberal arts study was the standard in Europe, and this approach was taken to North America. In the Western cultural tradition liberal arts education has always been the ultimate mark of an educated person. PTE is attentive to the changes of society and culture and promptly adaptive by developing curricula and educational methods to train competent individuals that meet the needs of the society by critically reflecting and interpreting these needs. Liberal Arts still today provides a comprehensive education in the humanities with the foundation knowledge to enter a number of careers in cultural life, education, and government, or to go straight into graduate study in any subject of humanities. The core aim of the curriculum is to develop well-rounded individuals capable of multidimensional scholarly thinking with general knowledge of a wide range of subjects and with mastery of a range of transferable skills. It is designed to enable students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and a sense of social responsibility. You will be taught in small, interactive seminar groups, encouraging discussion and debate with teaching staff and fellow students.
Liberal Arts is a specific approach to Bachelor level education, as it combines academic breadth and depth and offers students choice within a structured framework. Liberal Arts students will learn to analyse complex issues from different perspectives by drawing on various academic fields of knowledge, students will have the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects whilst developing specialist knowledge in their major discipline. All students will develop their individual study plan by taking courses from the academic core, their major, minor and a variety of elective courses. Discussions will start with the ‘big questions’ and lead to in-depth study in a wide range of academic disciplines. The programme is taught entirely in English and is small-scale.
