Film and Visual Studies

The purpose of the major is to train professionals who are able to critically analyse and aesthetically evaluate films by giving the students substantial training in film analysis, history, and theory. Special attention is given to the study of Hungarian cinema, the forms and types of film narratives, the social context of cinema and popular culture, and the history and characteristics of experimental/avant-garde film.

 


Graduation requirements

Students must fulfil the credit requirements (180 ects) of the bachelor’s degree. A Bachelor’s Thesis /Capstone must be completed.

Final Examination

All students must take a final examination at the end of their studies. This consists of two parts for the Film and Visual Studies degree: 1. Presentation and discussion of the Final Thesis. 2. Students are randomly assigned a topic to present in no less than 10 minutes on the basis of the knowledge of texts indicated for each topic and the knowledge they have acquired during their studies. All the necessary texts are available in the library of the programme's website or online.
