Mission:

It is now widely accepted that environmental problems cannot be solved solely through scientific and engineering methods. The ever-increasing and deepening crises and social conflicts around the world are drawing the attention of researchers and practitioners to the fact that understanding the complex historical and contemporary interrelationships between nature and humanity can help overcome these problems and contribute to restoring the balance between the environment and society at both the local and global levels. In the European academic community, interdisciplinary research institutions known as “Environmental Humanities” emerged and gained strength during the 2010s, where environmental issues are examined from the perspectives of the humanities and social sciences using interdisciplinary methods. The Human Environmental Sciences Research Group (hereinafter referred to as the Research Group) aims to integrate this institutional, research, and educational profile into the Hungarian academic landscape, while also taking into account local research traditions and prior scholarly work.
