The purpose of the research center

The importance of the Indo-Pacific region lies in the fact that, according to some [analyses], it is home to more than half of the world's population. Sixty percent of global economic output is produced in the region, which accounts for two-thirds of total global growth. The region is also home to the countries with the world's seven largest armed forces. The region's significance has thus grown steadily in recent decades: economic growth has brought political influence, and growing political and economic interests have generated security challenges.

The aim of the Research Group is to analyse and present, from a multidisciplinary perspective, the processes, events and strategic approaches related to international relations in the region. It seeks to coordinate and support the professional work of its members, create opportunities for joint publications, launch research and research projects, and organise study trips, thematic roundtables and conferences. A further aim is to build a pool of experts able to produce professional materials on developments in the region and to give expert statements at conferences and in interviews, representing the Research Group, the Faculty and the University.
