At the VICE Lab, we study human visual cognitive processes. We are particularly interested in the fundamental visual processes related to attention and working memory. We investigate how emotions influence these areas and processes, with a particular focus on the effects of emotions—and specifically threatening stimuli—on visual attentional processes. We believe it is important for our experiments to have both practical and theoretical implications. For this reason, we study specific groups with pathological conditions, such as people struggling with specific phobias. As part of this, we conduct research on the relationships between various phobias and anxiety disorders, as well as their underlying mechanisms and characteristic behavioral patterns. Furthermore, our goal is to gain a more detailed theoretical understanding of the visual cognitive processes underlying these concepts. To this end, we employ convergent techniques, combining classical behavioral paradigms with modern tools such as eye-tracking, pupillometry, and psychological measurement methods. Our overarching goal is to contribute to a better understanding of how the mind works and how we perceive the world. Publications since the 2022/23 academic year: approximately 50–60 articles, the vast majority of which (90%) were published in Q1–Q2 journals. Conference presentations: approximately 40 conference presentations, at international and domestic conferences, including posters and oral presentations.
