At the VICE lab, we investigate human visual cognitive processes and we are interested in basic visual processes that tap into the domain of attention and working memory. We are interested in exploring how emotions have an influence on these domains and processes, with a special focus on how emotions affect visual attentional processes. Most of our studies focus on or include threatening stimuli. While previous studies showed that threatening stimuli has an advantage in visual processing, there are a lot of factors spanning from high through mid to low-level features whose role in this is not clarified.
Our research heavily relies on behavioural testing, but we also adopted physiological measures such as skin conductance and heart rate, and also eye-tracking. See our ongoing projects under the Projects tab and our research tools under the Equipment tab.
