Dear Visitor,
On behalf of the Institute for Human Development and Cultural Studies (IHDCS), Faculty of Humanities, University of Pécs I would like to extend my warmest wishes to you visiting the website. Being honoured that you are our virtual guest now, I still do hope to see you in person soon at one of our courses, programmes or professional events.
Our Institute in the present structure has been operating as an organizational unit of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Pécs since the 1st July 2018. From the 1970s we are proud to list prestigious legal predecessors, the Department of Public Education of the former Pécs Teacher Training College / Janus Pannonius Faculty of Teacher Training, respectively as well as the Institute of Adult Education and Human Resource Development at the Faculty of Humanities and later at Faculty of Sciences. We have also conducted dynamic educational and research activities as an integrated part of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Education and Regional Development, University of Pécs.
Our distinctive commitment to interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives, coordinated by the department heads and colleagues of our 3 institute departments, combined with our innovative course design, gives the Institute an enviable international profile, while our courses cover significant subdisciplines of humanities and social sciences.
Two bachelor programmes (BA), seven Hungarian-speaking masters (MA), one English-speaking master (Human Resource Counselling) and one Hungarian-German dual master’s degree, as well as eight professional advanced training programmes are offered by our Institute. (See relevant sections of our website!)
I am proud to highlight that all our lecturers and researchers are highly qualified professionals, 9 of whom are habilitated doctors and 10 are PhD graduates.
We are determined to maintain a high level of professionalism and a significant number of international connections, in which students primarily participate in Erasmus+ programmes. Enrolled students can go to 38 foreign universities with a framework of 2, 5- or 10-month long scholarships to broaden their knowledge and skills, enhancing world-wide perspectives. As a former PhD research fellow, I am pleased to say that foreign studies and research programs are not only a lifelong experience but can also be decisive factors in participants’ careers and the development of their professional and linguistic competences.
Finally, allow me to suggest that you visit other “chapters” of our website about study programmes and activities as well as about curriculum vitae of our professors and lecturers with long-held international reputation for influential research and publication to get affiliated with the Institute’s scientific work.
I wish you to have a good time as a student at the Institute for Human Development and Cultural Studies and at the same time in the vibrant city of Pécs. Since if you spend your study time here, you will not only increase your knowledge, but in many ways, you will find a new world within you.
If you have any questions, or if you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact any of my colleagues; all e-mail addresses can be found on our website.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. habil. Zoltán Huszár associate professor, Director of the Institute
