Formal Requirements of the Thesis

All submissions are to consistently observe either the latest MLA, or the Chicago format.

The doctoral dissertation is required to be 360,000–480,000 characters (n), excluding the table of contents, bibliography, quotations, acknowledgements, figures, illustrations, drawings, or other visual materials, and the abstract. As an attachment to the dissertation, the thesis booklet is not included in the required length either.

Formal guidelines:


Font type: Times New Roman 12

Line spacing: double

Right margins: 2.5 cm, left margins: 3 cm, page numbers at the bottom of the pages, footnotes with contintuous numbering.

The dissertation is an independent scientific work, i.e., it must rely on international scholarly sources, which should be reflected in the bibliography.

In terms of formatting and citations (in-text citation, reference list, etc.) the dissertation should follow the practice of the given scientific field  (MLA or Chicago)).

The dissertation is accompanied by a thesis booklet containing

  1. a summary of the dissertation in English, including: a) the subject matter, the objectives and methodology of the research, b) the structure of the dissertation, c) a summary of the research results;
  2. the candidate's professional CV,
  3. a list of the candidate's scientific publications on the topic of their dissertation.

The dissertation should be submitted electronically in .doc/.docx and .pdf format.

In addition, one printed and bound copy should be submitted to the secretariat of the Doctoral School.
