Core concepts versus supporting concepts

This lecture discusses the Action-oriented approach, the concept of backwards design and using the descriptors from the CEFR scales, reconceptualise what rubrics are and what they have been used for, and how they can be changed to assist learners in their development. I will draw from current research, and how this was applied to an academic research writing program as well as with a critical reading program in a Japanese context. Students will be given opportunities to also reconceptualise rubrics based on their own experiences and apply them to their own contexts or visualise future contexts as a critical thinking exercise.
