György Heidl is a full professor who earned his Ph.D. from the Central European University in 2000 and his habilitation from the University of Debrecen in 2012. He was also awarded a Doctorate from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 2020. His research interests include early Christian literature, theology, art, late antique philosophical schools, Neoplatonism, and ancient and medieval theories of art and beauty. He gained international recognition for his book, Origen's Influence on the Young Augustine: A Chapter in the History of Origenism, published by Gorgias Press in 2003 and 2009. In this book, Heidl argues that Augustine made use of some Origenian works as early as the first phase of his activity (386–393 CE) and that basic elements of his early theology were derived from the Alexandrian master.
